Design Your Own Engagement Ring, Design Styles And Ring Settings

By Andy Moquin

He has popped the question. You have said “Yes!”. Before you phone the wedding planner and start searching for the perfect wedding dress, you are going to design your own engagement ring. There are many advantages to having a custom made jewelry engagement ring. Firstly, and most importantly, you will have exactly what you want, down to the finest details.

* Vintage or contemporary design. After trawling through magazines, jeweler’s windows, and possibly the net, you will probably realize that you are drawn to a particular style. Some girls make a conscious decision to have their engagement ring styled from a particular jewelry era and other girls will want the very latest style. Many contemporary designs right now are very reminiscent of the Art Deco style with the center setting or stone being square. The contemporary twist to this is to have a modern cut diamond like an Asscher style.

* Multiple stones or solitaire ring. A solitaire ring is a spectacular way to showcase a magnificent diamond. Solitaires are also great for girls who are into more simple styles. Having said this, a solitaire stone can have many varieties to the setting from understated to highly intricate. Multiple stones can be utilized in many ways. Many current styles are using smaller stones to decorate shanks and bands. Multiple diamonds can also be a great way to get a sparkling ring at a lesser cost. A solitaire diamond is nearly always going to cost more than smaller diamonds added up to a similar weight.

Various engagement ring settings:

* Bezel. This is a practical setting, enclosing the stone in metal very securely, and drawing visual attention to your stone. Some girls prefer bezel settings as claws can be more prone to catching, and getting banged or bent.

* Claws or cathedral. Claws, also known as prongs, give maximum visibility to a fantastic glittering stone, allowing light to pass through from all sides. The claws need to be substantial enough to keep the stones secure. A cathedral setting still uses claws to keep the stone firmly in place, but it also has the two sides of the ring rising up to the center setting, allowing for a more secure setting. Both claw and cathedral settings involve the center stone having a certain height or being raised from the band.

* Pave settings are a fantastic way to way to add glitter to any ring. Normally involving smaller stones that are firmly inlaid within the band, this gives a more subtle sparkle. Pave settings can be used to decorate the shanks of an engagement ring and make for beautiful settings for wedding and eternity rings.

* Channel settings involve the stones sitting down flush in a groove between the two sides of the metal. This is quite a modern setting, contrasting between metals and stones quite distinctly

* Raised or flat ring settings. Are you going to be a lady of leisure or do your hands see a lot of action? Some girls find flatter settings to be more practical for active lifestyles. However, any well built ring should be able to withstand a certain amount of living.

Saying to a custom jeweler “design my own engagement ring” is for many girls a once in a lifetime opportunity to have the engagement ring of their dreams. Custom made jewelry not only allows you to have a unique ring but to have every tiny detail finished to your requirements.

Iranian International Master Dorsa Derakhshani discusses her chess career with Wikinews

Tuesday, April 14, 2020

In February 2017, the Iranian Chess Federation announced two teenage chess players, Dorsa Derakhshani and her younger brother Borna Derakhshani, were banned from representing the national team. The federation announced their decision although Dorsa Derakhshani had previously decided and informed the chess federation she did not wish to play for Iran.

Dorsa Derakhshani is currently 21 years old and holds the International Master (IM) as well as Woman Grand Master (WGM) titles. Her brother, Borna, plays for the English Federation and holds the FIDE Master title.

Dorsa Derakhshani was banned since she did not wear a hijab, an Islamic headscarf, while competing at the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival in January 2017. Under the laws of Islamic Republic of Iran, hijab is a mandatory dress code. Her brother Borna Deraskhsani was banned for playing against Israeli Grand Master (GM) Alexander Huzman at the same tournament. Iran does not recognise the existence of Israel, and previously, Irani athletes have avoided playing against Israeli athletes.

Mehrdad Pahlavanzadeh, the president of the country’s chess federation, explained the decision to ban the players saying, “As a first step, these two will be denied entry to all tournaments taking place in Iran and in the name of Iran, they will no longer be allowed the opportunity to be present on the national team.” ((fa))Farsi language: ?????? ????? ?? ??? ??? ?? ??? ????? ?? ?? ???? ???????? ?? ?? ????? ? ?? ??? ????? ?????? ??????? ????? ??????? ? ???? ???? ???? ?? ??? ??? ?? ??????? ????. He further stated, “Unfortunately, something that should not have happened has happened and our national interest is paramount and we have reported this position to the Ministry of Sports.” ((fa))Farsi language: ????????? ?????? ?? ????? ????????? ?????? ??? ? ????? ??? ?? ?? ?? ???? ?????? ???? ? ?? ??? ???? ?? ?? ????? ???? ?? ????? ?????.

IM Dorsa Derakhshani, who currently studies at Saint Louis University in the United States and plays for the United States Chess Federation, discussed her chess career, time in Iran and the 2017 controversy, and her life in Saint Louis with a Wikinews correspondent.

Tuesday, November 21, 2006

Buffalo, New York —Buffalo, New York developers have been stymied by old real estate deeds.

The prospective Elmwood Village Hotel may be scuttled and businesses now located there may be forced to move.

Frustrations over property located in an area once known as “Granger Estates” circulate around a clause in the original deeds over land divided by then-owner Erastus Granger in the early 1800’s.

According to the documents, “no business establishment of any kind whatsoever” shall ever be constructed on the property, and they shall forever be exclusively for residential use only. Also prohibited are barns, farms and stables.

Sam Savarino, CEO of Savarino Companies, the prospective hotel developer, announced that his legal research team found the restrictions on properties located between 1109 and 1121 Elmwood Avenue which also stated in part that “no businesses, hospitality establishment of anykind whatsoever” shall ever be permitted to be built on the property.

Savarino, whom is expected to contest the restrictions, said that his company could have ignored the findings, but that, “we can’t risk the future of a multimillion-dollar project on the hope they wouldn’t be discovered. Our opponents would have had a field day if they’d surfaced after the fact.”

Savarino said his attorneys and researchers are anticipated to determine “exactly what weight the restrictions carry and if there’s a way for the courts to negate them.”

Existing businesses are also jeopardized.

Hans Mobius, owner of some of the restricted properties upon which a carriage house is built, said, he wasn’t aware of any restrictions, and “never had a reason to research the deed and title documents.” He confidently added that, “the lawyers can get this taken care of.”

Other threatened businesses include Don Apparel, H.O.D. Tattoo, Forest Plaza Art Gallery and Allentown Music.

Necessary Reconstructive Plastic Surgeries After An Accident}

Necessary Reconstructive Plastic Surgeries After an Accident

by

Dr. Ankur SoodAccidents are bound to happen. Be it burns, car accidents or even simple slips and falls will leave you with injuries. Since some of the injuries may not heal normally, you should consider undergoing reconstructive plastic surgery.

Although plastic surgery is associated with movie stars and other celebrities, it can help you regain your once beautiful body. There are three main surgeries that you can undergo after an accident: facial surgery, body surgery and skin surgery.

Facial surgery

An accident can leave you with a misshapen face. Common accidents that cause injury to the face are car accidents. During the accident, you may hit your face on the dashboard or windshield which can result to great damage to the nose and lips. To correct the damage, you need a reconstructive surgeon.

If you have broken your nose, the surgeon will get cartilage from your ribs and insert them in your nose. If you had cut your lips during the accident, the surgeon will stitch together the torn lips so that they can heal properly.

In addition to the surgeon working on your lips and nose, the surgeon is also able to work on your chin, cheek, ear, eye and even your eyelid. If need be, the reconstructive surgeon will give you a facelift or even the good old fashioned hair transplantation.

Skin surgery

After a tragic accident, the skin naturally heals by scarring. In some cases, the scars may be too large and cover large parts of the body. In severe cases, the scars can become red and swollen.

To reduce the size of the large scar, a reconstructive surgeon works on your skin. The surgeon carefully cuts away the old dead tissue and redoes the previous incision. This way, the scar becomes smaller and more hidden from the public eye.

Other than accidents causing large scars, burns can also result to large scars, which make the skin eye sore. Burns not only cause large scars, but they also reduce the skin’s flexibility in the affected area.

If you have been burnt and your skin’s flexibility has been affected, you can get help through plastic surgery. To repair your skin, the surgeon uses peel light, peel deep, micro-pigmentation or skin tightening, to ensure that you regain your previous skin.

Body surgery

Accidents can affect any part of the body. Regardless of the part of the body affected, a reconstructive surgeon will work on it. In most road accidents, it’s common for people to injure or lose their appendage.

For example, you may lose one of your thumbs. Losing a thumb is devastating since it prevents you from performing simple tasks that you used to do before. For example, you may be unable to tie your shoe laces.

In such a case, the surgeon can insert a prosthetic thumb. If it proves difficult for you to work with the prosthetic thumb, the surgeon can remove your big toe and use it as a thumb replacement. Although, this will lender you toe-less, you will be able to resume you normal duties.

In addition to the surgeon working on your lips and nose, the surgeon is also able to work on your chin, cheek, ear, eye and even your eyelid. If need be, the reconstructive surgeon will give you a facelift or even the good old fashioned hair transplantation.

Iran’s morality police crack down on un-Islamic dress

Wednesday, April 25, 2007

The Iranian police forces have faced criticism from Ayatollah Hashemi Shahrudi, the head of the judiciary who was appointed by Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, for their re-invigorated campaign to do away with un-Islamic dress.

Ayatollah Shahroudi proclaimed, “Tough measures on social problems will backfire and have counter-productive effects.” Others have, of course, made it clear that un-Islamic dress can lead to moral corruption, engender innumerable vices, and hurt the Islamic character of the nation.

Some believe that no one had any issue with the creation of an Islamic atmosphere. The core of the matter revolves around the implementation of the Islamic dress code; additionally, heavy-handed measures should be shunned. For instance, Mehdi Ahmadi, information head of Tehran’s police, told Al Jazeera: “Some citizens may complain about the way the law is being enforced but they all agree with the plan itself.”

According to one student, “You simply can’t tell people what to wear. They don’t understand that use of force only brings hatred towards them, not love.” Nevertheless, Hojatoll-Islam Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi, Iran’s interior minister who is in charge of policing, prognosticated positive feedback from the populace when he said, “People are unhappy with the social and moral status of the society. They expect that the fight against social insecurity be properly implemented.” Thus, Hujjat al-Islam Pour-Mohammadi re-iterated the necessity of proper implementation and methodology towards the restoration of morality in the Islamic Republic. Islamic officials and religious people affirm that this is indispensable to promote righteousness, curb sin, and bring open sinners to justice.

Following the Islamic Revolution in 1979, hijab became mandatory in Iran for every woman including foreigners after over 98% of citizens voted for an Islamic government. Women may face caning up to 74 strokes for failing to observe hijab. In this recent crackdown, the authorities have arrested many citizens throughout the country. Not only have women been taken into custody for their hair being uncovered on their foreheads and tight clothes that show body shapes, For men they need to cover from knee to their waist as according to Sharia. Even a foreign journalist was detained because the photograph on her press card was indecent.

It has not been clear whence the directive for the re-newed clampdown emanated. Some have blamed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad while Gholam Hossein Elham, the government spokesman, stated to reporters, “The police work as agents of the judiciary to confront crimes. The government as an executive body does not interfere in the affairs of the judiciary.” The following pre-election speech seems to corroborate this latter statement:

In reality, is the problem of our people the shape of the hair of our children? Let our children arrange their hair any way they wish. It doesn’t concern me and you. Let you and me overhaul the basic problems of the nation. The government should fix the economy of the nation and improve its atmosphere…[It should] better psychological security and support the people. People have variegated tastes. As if now the arch obstacle of our nation is the arrangement of our kids’ hair and the government disallowing them <He chuckles>. Is this the government’s responsibility? Is this the people’s merit? In actuality, this is the denigration of our people. Why do you underestimate and belittle the people? It is the real issue of our nation that one of our daughters donned a certain dress? Is this the issue of our nation and the problem of our nation?

Israeli PM Ariel Sharon briefly opens eyes

Monday, January 16, 2006

Israeli media is reporting that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon opened his eyes for the first time since he suffered a major stroke on January 4, 2006.

However, hospital officials said the reports were generated by the Sharon family’s “impression of eyelid movement, whose medical significance is unclear.”

“He was listening to a tape of his grandson and you could see tears in his eyes for a matter of seconds before he closed them again,” a doctor treating Sharon told AFP news agency on condition of anonymity.

Army Radio, citing unidentified close associates of Sharon, say the Prime Minister could “recognize people around him.”

However, hospital officials state that it is “too early to tell whether the development represented a significant improvement or was just a temporary reflex.”

Sharon had undergone a tracheotomy on Sunday to help with his breathing and to help prevent infection from his respirator tube.

Stockholm chief prosecutor quashes arrest warrant for Wikileaks editor-in-chief

Saturday, August 21, 2010

The arrest warrant issued for Wikileaks’ editor-in-chief Julian Assange has been quashed by Stockholm Chief Prosecutor Eva Finné, who said in a press release “I am of the opinion that there is no reason to suspect that he has committed a rape.” The press officer of the Swedish Prosecution Authority says that he is still suspected of molestation, and that neither police nor prosecutors have yet been able to contact Assange. Assange had this morning said that he was going to hand himself in to police but also said that the accusations against him were false. The investigation is continuing.

A warrant for Assange’s arrest was issued on Friday evening after the Stockholm police informed prosecutors that he had been accused of rape. According to Expressen’s sources two women between 20 and 30 years old are the alleged victims. Police and prosecutor Maria Häljebo Kjellstrand told Swedish news agency TT that the alleged molestation took place in Stockholm on the night of 13–14 August and the alleged rape happened “later” in Enköping. (Expressen’s sources say the alleged rape occurred on Tuesday.) Beyond that they have refused to comment. Sources told Expressen that the two women knew each other and “knew that they had been the victims of the same thing”. A source says that the women were afraid of Assange’s “position of power” and had been reluctant to make a formal report to the police. However, on Sunday one of his accusers was interviewed by Aftonbladet and denied that they were scared of Assange: “It is wrong to say that we were frightened of Assange and that we hadn’t wanted to report him for that reason. He’s not violent and I do not feel threatened by him.”

Assange was in Sweden last week to talk about his work and to defend Wikileaks’ publication of the Afghan War Diary, a set of tens of thousands of secret US military documents whose publication has angered the Pentagon and the Obama administration. He had also met Swedish Pirate Party leader Rickard Falkvinge and signed a deal in which the party agreed to provide Wikileaks with server space. The Pirate Party is continuing its cooperation with Wikileaks despite the allegations against Assange.

Assange has denied the allegations in e-mails to Swedish media and on Wikileaks’ Twitter feed, saying “the charges are without basis and their issue at this moment is deeply disturbing.” An official statement on the Wikileaks blog says: “We are deeply concerned about the seriousness of these allegations. We the people behind WikiLeaks think highly of Julian and he has our full support. While Julian is focusing on his defenses and clearing his name, WikiLeaks will be continuing its regular operations.”

UN nuclear chief says negotiations with Iran at ‘dead end’

Friday, November 27, 2009

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed ElBaradei, said earlier on Thursday that the organization has reached a “dead end” in a probe into Iran’s nuclear program. The IAEA’s board is meeting to consider a resolution condemning Iran’s nuclear program.File:Elbaradei.png

In remarks to the IAEA’s board, ElBaradei expressed frustration over Iran’s failure to cooperate with the Vienna-based agency. ElBaradei leaves office in a few days, at the end of this November, and his remarks have grown sharply more critical of Iran in recent months.

Today, he said he was disappointed that Iran had not agreed on a deal to further enrich its uranium overseas. The deal has the support of the United States, Russia and France and it aims to provide a safeguard that Iran’s uranium is not being used to make a nuclear weapon.

“It is now well over a year since the agency was last able to engage Iran in discussions about these outstanding issues. We have effectively reached a dead end, unless Iran engages fully with us,” he commented.

“In my view the proposed agreement presents a unique opportunity after many years of animosity and hostility to address a humanitarian need and create a space for negotiation. This opportunity should be seized and it would be highly regrettable if it was missed,” he said.

ElBaradei’s comments come as the IAEA board is considering a draft resolution on Iran. According to press reports, the draft urges Iran to stop construction of the uranium enrichment site, and to confirm that it has no other hidden nuclear activities. Diplomats are reportedly confident the measure will be passed, but Iran’s ambassador to the IAEA told a German newspaper that Tehran would reduce its cooperation with the IAEA to a minimum if that happens.

Some members of the international community believe that Iran is trying to build a nuclear weapon; Tehran, however, maintains that its efforts are for peaceful purposes only.
